Hegemony Culture and Oral Oppression
A Feminist and Dalit Critique of Select Malayalam Proverbs
A Study on the Influence of Casteism and Patriarchy in Malayalam Proverbs
By Agnes Santhosh
Proverbs are wise, witty sayings. Communication can take a twist or become precise with proverbs. Malayalam proverbs constitute the tradition and culture of Kerala. For the earlier generations in Kerala, daily communication was sure to be laden with Malayalam proverbs. Even though this habit has declined in the current generation, the effect of the proverbs persists. This book attempts an analysis of the influence of Casteism and Patriarchy in Malayalam proverbs and their effect on the understanding of Dalits and women in the society of Kerala.
